    Backyard deck #2

If you can call this little thing a deck, that is.

My wife wanted me to do some thing with the corner by the shed so it wouldn't have to be mowed as it was nearly impossible to get the mower in there. So I put a redwood deck on it. It's small but useful. The trellis in the corner is a 2x6 piece of redwood slit on the table saw and spread to the size we needed, stabilized with the cross pieces. (easiest way to build a trellis) Hopefully, the plant will cover it and cover the unattractive area behind the shed.

The planter boxes and benches were an after thought. Obviously, the landscaping around it still needs to be done.

Really nice job...with the appropriate landscaping it seems like it could evolve into a private little sanctuary.

That's a nice little setup there! That's gotta be worth a new tool purchase with the 1st National Bank of Wife..

Like Storm said, it could be a nice little place to get away! Did you build the water wheel?

Great job on the deck and benches. Bet you work for DECKS" R" US.
If you don't start your own. All that planning really paid off. Should submit it to DIY TV. Great waterwheel too.

Excellent work. My son is building a Coy pond. I think the water wheel would work very well with what he has in mind. Any details on that part?

Looks great, wouldn't mind having that here if it weren't for our state bird (mosquitos)! I remember the water wheel thread, nice to see it in context!

Thank you guys for all your words of encouragement.
                              Now to answer the questions.

Pappy, yes, I did build the water wheel. It was about a year ago now that I posted that one but I guess the thread got lost. It isn't there any more.

Lee, I built the water wheel from a plan I got off the internet. But since I've seen those plans at Lowe's and Rockler. I made mine out of cedar. If you are going to build one, I would recommend that you get stainless steel hardware for it. (shaft, bearings, etc.) My bearings gave out after only 8 months and the shaft rusted. (A kit I got from the internet) Now it is running on brass bushings and a stainless steel shaft.

No, Cabinetman, I don't build decks for a living. I'd starve. It's just for my own use and enjoyment.

                              Thanks again guys!
                              Claudio
