    LEGO tray/chest

Two boys that love LEGOs have birthdays this week. So I decided to build a tray with green baseplates that attaches to a chest for storage.

The tray is red oak, the case is ash. There are brass locking latches on the ends to protect special projects inside from destructive brothers.

I took the opportunity to pick up the Miller dowel miniX at Rockler & put walnut dowels in the tray butt joints to jazz it up a little. This was my first time using box joints in a project. They were made on the TS with dado set & homemade jig. The finish is a few coats of wipe-on poly.

Nice work... Have little ones around broadens the imagination for projects.

Very nice! Looks like you could even expand it upward as their collection grows (and it will! )

That is so cool! It would have to be at least twice that size to hold all the Lego my son (now his daughter) has!
The tray with the Lego base is a great idea.
