    Finally Finished the #5

    Well almost anyway I still need to replace the front handle screw but that coming!

    I think to get a good view of this project I need to take you back and refresh memories on what this plane looked like when I bought it;

    I made a new knob and handle, de-rusted, cleaned, polished, repaired and painted. I replaced the blade and the chip breaker with new Hock’s.

    All the brass has been cleaned and polished up to I think probably better than new.

    I have flattend and made the sides 90 degrees to the sole. I even went so far as to repaint the background of the Stanley logo.

    In any case I can’t wait to give it a try, I will probably follow up with a shavings picture when I get out to the shop. Using the thicker Hock blade and chip breaker allows me to close the mouth up some which should produce a finer cut for me. Now I guess I can get back to woodworking till my next divergence.

    Thanks for having a look. Questions, thoughts and comments welcome.

        Looks terrific!

        As an admirer of Old Tools, I appreciate your new tote/knob - they look great in their own right, without trying to pass themselves off as original equipment.

        Bravo, or as they say on Univision each time I pass by the conference room:

                          Well thanks every one I am pleased with the end results. I have to say I don’t know if I could have done it or even attempted it without Pappy’s electrolysis tutor and his advice.

                          I got to play with it a bit last night and make some shavings. I have the blade a bit canted but I was just testing the cut.

                          On this one I backed out the blade a bit and am running down the board edge. The shavings are almost see through and so fine. The finish left on the wood is like glass and I can feel no torn grain at all.
