Veneered tabletop, chessboard, and table

Great looking work! I love the idea of combining cherry
and maple for the chess board! The border around the chess board, is
that also curly maple that you stained? Did you stain the cherry?
What is the very dark stripe in the board?

Thanks everyone. There is no stain. Just Zinnsner Seal Coat
shellac and then paste wax. This was a homework assignment so
I didn't put much thought into "colors". The cherry and maple
is what I had around from another assignment. The cherry has
aged a little so it's getting nice and darke. There are
curly maple squares as well as a curly maple border. The border
veneer is from a different lot and yes, it is pretty dark for
maple, but that's what the guy on eBay said it was. The dark
border strip is sapelle pomelle, I think.

There is a solid maple edge with a bullnose but I did a horrible
job doing it. It will probably rip the edge off and if I
ever use this board, it will be inset into a nicer frame.

Thanks Paul! Didn't know Maple comes that dark, but it sure looks like quilted Maple.
