How do you keep the critters out of it?

You are asking for something that is near impossible. We have a Basset Hound and a cat that is a very good hunter. I enjoy watching the stalk and ensuing chase. It's like watching an animal version of the TV show "Cops". This is my original feeder which is a couple of years old, and you'll notice the squirrel scratches on the post. The sunflowers growing around it came up volunteer from previous feedings.

Great looking feeder. I have a copper roof birdhouse and feeder on the list for this year. Hope mine looks as good as yours.

I like tarnished too! Where did you get the copper?

Thank you all for the great comments. As far as keeping the copper from tarnishing, the tarnish doesn't bother me. It's just a stage prior to the green patina. It's just a personal thing, I guess.

I found it over at Home Depot, next to the guttering and flashing. It came in 20' rolls at 10" wide and the cost was around $17.00 per.
