Really nice.
For pappy and others who want to make something similar but do not like Rick's perfectly decent idea of dowels, Woodsmith has a different idea. I made one to their plans where you make a through mortise out of two 3/4 inch pieces of wood for the top and bottom rail using a router and jig (it's basically an oversized dado). When you glue the pieces together you get a through dado. Now you can slip in the spindles after glueing up the headboard and footboard. I modified this approach in mine but putting 1/4 inch mortises in the bottom rail and short tenons on each spindle. I did this mainly to save wood. I still slipped them in from the top (really I had to pound on them a bit, they were snug but that helps the final appearance).
