    DIL's new Desk

Just got this delievered this afternoon. Basically pine. File cabinets are cheap sandply covered with pine tongue and groove paneling. Used that for the door panels also. Hutch is all solid pine. Finish is amber shellack, I like the color didn't like working with it. Forgot the drawer pulls for the pencil drawers. I'll just have to make a speed run to Jacksonville in the Stang next week to fix them. Pat

I really like it. How did you construct the table tops?

Well, it's certainly bigger than my desk project. Looks great, you should be proud!

Tops are 3/4" ply with the plastic laminate. The front edging has a wide rabbet that wraps under about and inch and a half. I rabbeted the back to run under about three inches. The right and left halfs are connected with a 3/4" ply backing piece at the joint and the back edging runs the full length of the top. Pat

Wow is right, that looks really nice. I'm sure she loves it.

I seem to have difficulty working with pine, but you really seem to have mastered it.

                    Great,

That's excellent, Pat. The solid pine looks like White Pine. Unlike some 'wood snobs' I enjoy working with Pine, especially White.
I feel for you about the Amber Shellac. I'm using it on a blanket chest. But, it's no where as bad for me as the Garnet I started with.
You've got a lot of work in that project, and you did good, real good.

Nice. I myself have had okay luck with pine, but I prefer hardwoods.
