    Deacon Bench

Our new Priest arrived last month from Michigan. Found out he's a woodworker, although without his shop while waiting for his house to sell and family to arrive. He told me that the only thing he needed in his temporary apartment was a mini-bench to put by his front door to put on and take off his shoes (I assume a habit from the Michigan winters that he was coming from - didn't want to explain to him that it was unnecessary in South Carolina). So over the past month I did this for him. Its cedar (from scrap) and poplar plywood. Full process is on my project web site. Had some problems with the cedar wanting to splinter and split, but I think I got everything controlled. Will deliver it later in the week.

It came out great, Ken. I like the Cedar and Poplar together, and the curves and angles on the side and back trim set it off. Nice design touch.

Excellent contrast with the cedar and the poplar, Ken. It certainly came out right!!!

Looks like a winner to me. It's a good idea to be in good with your priest/preacher and that ought to do it

Looks really great! I made a similar bench for the boots that darling daughter and grandson would just pile by the door, so I put a shelf on the lower strechers and now the boots and shoes are stored there!

I do that as therapy - some how it brings closure to a project and I've actually gone back to double check something I want to do on a current project. Besides that - its fun to brag on your hobby .

I guess I've never seen aromatic cedar with a finish on it before. It's eye-poppingly gorgeous. I love the color and contrast with the ply.
