    BT3 Mobile Cabinet

Finally, after almost a year I got it done. Still have to seal it and line the drawers, but the main construction is done.

It's the same height as my work bench so that I can use it as a out feed table.

Very nice - couple of questions for you -

      1) Is the bottom a torsion box, or is it a 2x4 frame with some 2x4s going from side-to-side inside that frame?

      2) how thick is the sheet above the box/frame?

I've been mulling a base like this, and I'm just curious about the structural strengths/differences between a setup like yours vs a setup where the bottom is a torsion box, which is the entire length from side-to-side and the casters are under the torsion box.

      3) How do you get the base top to line up with the table saw top?

I notice that the drawers under the saw are different heights than elsewhere. Is there a reason(s) for that? Does the shallow drawer just below the saw serve as access to removing sawdust not trapped by the dust collection system?

            The bench looks nice, too!

                Dave's questions:

                1) Is the bottom a torsion box, or is it a 2x4 frame with some 2x4s going from side-to-side inside that frame?

                2) how thick is the sheet above the box/frame?

I kind of copied the base from the Best Ever Workshops mag on page 61. It's a 2 x 3 frame underneath actually (I took off the round overs on the 2 x 4's). They run the length of the cabinet one on the front and back then one in the middle.

The sheet above the frame is 3/4" MDF.

                3) How do you get the base top to line up with the table saw top?

I built the mobile base first, then built the carcus that the BT sits on, attached everything and measured from the top of the BT to the top of the mobile base to get the height I needed for the extension cabinet. It's not exact it's about a 1/32" off (lower) than the BT top. I finished the top w/ laminate on 3/4" MDF.

                dlminehart's question:

Does the shallow drawer just below the saw serve as access to removing sawdust not trapped by the dust collection system?

Right, the thin drawer below the saw is for dust. The very top of the carcus that the BT sits on has a hole cut out to allow the dust to fall into the drawer.
