I bought a BT3000 in 1993. Yesterday the motor stopped. I believe it's a brush problem and I want to order new brushes, but I don't know whether I have 13 amp motor or a 15 amp motor. How do I make this determination by looking at the motor? Thanks for your help.

Not quite... IIRC, early BT3000's had the 13-amp, but the 15-amp motor was added after a couple of years. All BT3100's had 15-amp motors.Comment

most BT3000s had 15A motors but the very early ones like 1993 (first year of production) were the ones with the 13A motors.
They made the BT3000 from about 1993 to 2001? and only the first 1 or 1-1/2 years had the 13A motor, the rest had 15A.
You can tell for sure by checking the name plate, it should list the amps, with 13 or 15 depending on the motor.
I have heard its hard to get the brushes for the 13A motors and even some of the early 15A motors - you may need to buy some carbon brush material and make your own.Last edited by LCHIEN; 05-11-2010, 06:44 PM.Loring in Katy, TX USA
If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.
