I know the original Ryobi 3x00 is considered a great saw, yet it doesn't seem to be for sale anymore. What did Ryobi do? Is their current stuff as good? Tell a noob the story!

To the best of my knowledge (not complete by any means) Ryobi didn't do it. Home Depot has the Ryobi Exclusive. They decided to close it out, then Cummin's tools (now Worldwide liquidators), the Ryobi refurbished place, had their selection dry up.
Around this same time, it was rumored that they were working on a new model, but Home Depot never got it (here in the states). Around the same time, Craftsman came out with their new version (they had one before) on a mobile stand, the 21829. Now there is some speculation on that, due to not in the latest catalog, and SOME stores clearancing that model (more not then so, so far). The bad thing about the Sears saw, is it has gone way up in price (not the value they once were). She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice. -
they made Ryobi labeled BT3000, BT3100 from 1992 to 2006. 14 years is a long run for any product.
HD has the exclusive sales for Ryobi for USA, they elected not to carry them anymore either because of saturation (sold 100's of thousands) or competing saws for sale at HD, or wanted something new. I'm sure had they ordered them, Ryobi would have made them.
BT3 derivatives live on in other countries and under other badges (like Craftsman 21829 at Sears).
Loring in Katy, TX USA
