    Restoring old BT3

I bought an old BT3. First off, it has what looks like a lot of paint and stain overspray. How should I clean it up? do scotch pads work? Mild sandpaper?
I don't want to ruin anything by using the wrong product.

first of all is it a BT3000 or a BT3100?

They have different finishes, the 3000 having anodized aluminum with machined tops and the BT3100 having power-coated epoxy paint.

either way it'll be hard getting the paint and overspray off, I would think it would bond to the either surface fairly well.

The FAq has a lot of useful information (see my sig line below)

      Goof off?

Have you tried goof off? It's pretty good at getting paint off of places you don't want it.

        Cleaning up saw

I too just bought a Very well used saw Bt 3000. Dont know how but most of the powder coating between the raised slots was missing or coming off. I took naval jelly let it soak for thirty min. and hit it with a high speed with a fine wire wheel. took off everything,it also some what brought some of the shine to the tarnished alum. i am now in the process of re powder coating the tops.RED pictures will follow.

If it is a BT3000, try the red/brown Scothbrite pads and acetone. Not sure how the acetone would affect the powder coating on a BT3100.

Another suggestion would be to use the pads with DuPont Rubbing Compound. Fairly aggressive, but no silicones.
