Long before I found this site the shims on my saw fell out and are long since gone. What do I need to look for in terms of damage being done from not having the shims in place for a year of light use? Everything seems to be running and working fine. I plan on performing the 3100 shim "upgrade" in the future.

i expect that without the shims, you can have two problems - one everything will bind up, or two, everything will be loosey goosey and have a lot of play and backlash and slop in the blade to table relationships.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

After disassembling the saw look for damage on the milled faces of the guide holder and the locker bracket. If there is no damage insert shims or do the conversion.
Damage, get the JB Weld out and go to work!
Then replace the shims or do the shim conversion.Often in error - Never in doubt
