    Hole?

    Hi all,
I've been lurking off and on for a long time and I just scored a BT3000 off of craigslist so I guess I can start posting now. It's in rough shape. First, check out the hole. It's not supposed to be there, is it? I guessing the previous owner was trying to get easier access to raise and lower the blade as the handwheel is gone/broken. I guess it didn't work because he showed me how to raise and lower the blade using a wrench from the bottom. Both shims are gone also. I've ordered a new guide holder and some 3100 shims. The second pic shows the damage on the Locker Bracket. Do you think it looks fixable?

Welcome to the forum! Hope you find it as helpful and enjoyable as I have. The hole is definitely not supposed to be there, but I don't think it will cause any harm. I still consider myself a newbie so I can't answer the question regarding the bracket, but one of the long term regulars should be coming along with a response soon. Hope you're able to get it up and running soon.
      - Chris.

The hole should not present any problems as long as it is smooth. The damage to your loacker bracket likely will not cause problems provided you smooth the gouges to remove any ridge above the surface. You should be able to find nearly all the parts you need by watching the forums classifieds.

The hole should not present a problem.

The locker bracket rails appear to have been scored pretty deeply. The shims however are wide and rest on the entire width. I would think that the new shims would ride over the scored grooves and would not be a problem. If there's any rough spots on the gouges you should smooth them over with some fine sandpaper and of course in the end the rails need to be lubricated with a dry lubricant.

You might think about upgrading the shims to the new BT3100 style shims, if you have to get new shims anyway.

I posted an article on the upgrade process here:

I think I have a BT3100 hand wheel and likely all the parts to make that section work again too. (I have two disassembled saws in my shop.) The quest is can I find all the parts for those assemblies.

Send me a PM so I remember to look for the stuff.

Welcome to the site. There are a great many helpful people on the site. I went through a similar problem a little while ago here is the thread explaining the repair and links to other resources.

Best answer is clean up the gouges and use JB weld before installing new shims. Follow the instructions on the JB Weld and I believe you will be pleased. If you have any questions, send a PM and I will be glad to help

                  Thanks

Thanks for all the help guys. I filled in the gouges with jbweld, sanded everything smooth and then applied paste wax. Everything is back together now with the new 3100 shims and guide holder. It goes up and down like buttuh. One more stupid question, which way does the eccentric plate on the arbor go? Curved part up or down?
