    I broke my BT3100

Looks like the motor's dead on my BT3100. We were resawing 2x6s into slats for the yurt.

We got maybe 10 uts in when we noticed that the motor was starting to spark. Wee just it down, and noticed the motor was smoking. It smelled like a hunk of wood or something got in there.

We let it cool down for a while, then started up again, but it was sparking and laboring a lot, so we finished up for the evening.

Yesterday, I tried it, and nothing. The motor is completely dead.

I don't know much about electric motor repair, but I'll take it apart tonight and see what's up.

In the meantime, I just gave a way my old TS, so I guess it's off to the store to buy an inexpensive saw to get me through this project.

It sounds like it needs brushes at the least. they are very easy to replace.

I've cleaned the thing. Brushes shouldn't be a problem, except last time I had it apart, I had a devil of a time with keeping the springs off the brushes compressed to ft the casing back on.

When you first noticed the smoking, did the motor

feel too hot to touch? Usually the insulation on the windings will deteriorate when heat builds up. Hope you get it back up and running.

Can the motors on these saws be replaced for a reasonable price?

With all the nice features these saws have, you might just want to fix it if that is in your budget...

I'll see if I can fix the motor, but the project I'm doing is on a pretty tight schedule, so I'll need something to stand pretty much now.

Took the motor apart. One of the brushes is toast, and there's some melted insulation in the casing.

It doesn't _look_ very repairable, but this isn't really my area of expertise.
