I just got a new 315.218290, and was able to assemble it without any problem. However, I got stuck with the sliding miter table. It shows in the assembly instruction (page 21) that there is a slide lock that you can pull up if you wish to use the slide feature of the miter table. However, the slide lock has a phillips screw on it, and it can not be loosened. Thus the miter table is in the lock position. I am afraid that if I put too much pressure to loosen the phillips screw, it might break. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, why is this so hard to loosen? Am I missisng something?

No, you're not missing anything. That screw should come loose with a good twist.
There have been any number of reports indicating various screws were torqued too tightly on the BT3x.
You might try giving the tab a tap with hammer. Other than that, I got nothin' for ya.

you shouldn't have to loosen the screw in order for the sliding latch to work. The little clip has a thumb lip on it you should be able to just pull up to release the lock. The sliding latch may be a little stiff but you don't want it to fall down on you. the sliding latch forms the spring tension, not the screw which should be bottomed out and tight to prevent it from coming loose and falling off. I've never removed the screw you mention from my 7-yr old BT3000 and operated the latch many times. I think the latch is identical.

miter slide stop screw
I, too, just got a new 21829 and had a similar problem. I ended up using a screwdriver which looked oversize for the screw, but worked without damaging it. There seems to be some confusion. I hope we are discussing the miter slide stop and not the quick stop.

The screw just holds the tab in alignment. There is a spring washer that creates friction to keep the tab from falling once it is up to slide. You should not have to adjust the screw at all. If you do consider contacting Sears for Warranty help.Donate to my Tour de Cure
