TS or Miter Table Fence - Modifications OR Attachments

    All,

i am interested in building an attachment for my bt3100 fence. i have seen a few designs, but haven't finialized what i want to do.

i was wondering, for all those who have made modifications in any way or attachments for their TS or miter table fence, would like to share their ideas here in this post. if you could also post pictures of what you have done, that would be ideal, as a picture is worth a 1000 words.

this way this thread could be searched by anyone in the archives and could serve to be very useful for all the ww novices like myself.

    thanks for the help!

    Omar,

    Go to www.ryobitools.com
click on forum near the top.
The old forum will come up.
Look at the 3100 and the archives. Lots of good info and ideas in the archives - especially those from Frye.

Pics of the rip fence attachment I made. It is a tall fence - has t-slots to attach a split fence for routing and has through slots to attach featherboards/etc. I also have a jig so I can attach a vac hose when routing. I lose about 2.5" of rip width capacity because I designed in a feature I've never used. I plan to modify it at some point so I don't lose that capacity.

This is dead simple, but FWIW ... I made an oversize fence face from 1/2" thick Baltic birch plywood and attached it with round head machine screws and T-nuts. It extends a few inches in front of the aluminum fence, to give me a longer indexing surface while ripping, and is taller than the aluminum fence, for each attachment of stop blocks and the like using one or two small spring clamps.

I also have a sacrificial fence face for use with a dado set that was made much the same way. Swapping one face for the other took less than a minute ... loosen the four screws, slide the face off, slide the other into place, tighten the screws.

thanks shortygeo, david and larry for the posts.

shortygeo, i did look at the site you mention, but i cant seem to find anything with frye and rip fence attachment. i guess i will look again.

over the year, i have seen some interesting/useful rip or miter fence attachments in photos posted in threads on this site. i guess, its a busy time of the year. hopefully we'll be able to see more soon.

          once again, thanks!

I'm getting ready to build up my fences as well...

I checked out the entire BT forum @ ryobi.com and was not able to find anything either.

I'm working out exactly what I want to do - based on how I've used my saw over the last 18 months- and will post pictures of what I come up with.

basically I have four fence attachments:
                1. Tall fence like LarryG's, approx 7" tall, same length as rip fence.
                2. Sacrificial fence, for dados
                3. Long fence, extends about 4-5 inches past the regular fence, and same height, for ripping.
                4. L-Fence, vertical part against the fence, horizontal part against the table. This lets me rip thin pieces and still use the blade guard. maybe 3" wide on the bottom. Make it 3.00 inches if you can and then you can use the rip scale less three inches (e.g. set 3.25" to make a .25" rip.) Hint, make it wider a bit then rip to exactly 3" using the fence and scale. On this one I don't use the T-slots, I just use a pair of quick grip clamps to hold it to the fence.

After finding the T-nuts (one set will do for all the fences) and bolts the right length, none of these fences should take you more than 15 minutes to make.
