Old BT3000 switch

I have wanted a BT3000 for several years, so I recently purchased a couple of used tablesaws. My original thought was to use the parts on the older saw (1994) to restore the newer model (2000). After looking at them carefully...they are both very good saws. I am going to put both of them back into service. I will use the "Shim upgrade procedure" to install the BT3100 shims on the 2000 model (new shims were needed), but I don't plan to do anything to the 1994 model as it still raises well.

The 1994 saw has the old push-button On/Off that are red and green. It doesn't seem as safe as the new ON/OFF switch on the 2000 model (which requires a simple bump to turn it off). Does anyone know where I can purchase this newer switch for the 1994 saw?

One additional issue....The handle that raises the blade is broken on one saw. Will the handle from a Sears version work on a BT 3000? It might be the only option that I can find.

the red greeen push button switch on the oldest BT3000 were recalled by the CPSC and contacting Wayne Hill at Ryobi/Techtronics they will replace that pushbutton switch for free.

you should not have to purchase a new switch. The replacement was the switch you mention, with the rocker switch under the bump-off cover.

you might also want to check, but i think you might be OK, the first year or two which i think was 1992-1993, the BT3000 was equipped with a 13A motor and it was later upgraded to 15A, which is by far more desirable. The amperage should be listed on the nameplate. as well as the datecode YYWW where YY is the last two digits of the year and WW is the week, 01-52. e.g. a saw made in 5th week (February) of 1994 would have a date code of 9405.

FYI....

Wayne Hill contacted me this morning and is going to send me a new switch. I was very surprised (in a good way) in the quality and speed of the response. I give Wayne Hill and Techtronics an A++ in Customer Service.

I'm curious as to whether you get the classic BT3000 sw with the rocker switch under the hinged push-anywhere-to-turn-off safety cover or the BT3100-1 switch with the paddle and the yellow removable locking key insert.

I received the new switch from Wayne Hill today. It is the same switch that is on the 2000 model BT3000 that I have. It took about 5 minutes to install and works great. It is much easier to turn off and on. Techtronics has terrific customer service!!
