My fence seems to not stay square to the blade and is often out about a 1/16 from the flip up stop. I always have to make sure the fence is flat against this stop before making cuts. Anyone know of a cure for this? Thanks

I have experienced this problem as well. The washer is supposed to be between the knob that tightens the fence and the black plastic "fence holder" which mine is but the problem persists. I too would like to know. -
That does happen, make sure the washer/knob/fence sequence is correct.
Make sure the black pivot is in the right place (usually hole on the right edge of the SMT).
If you use the Miter clamp, this is notorious for pulling the fence forward a bit if you tighten it hard - has to do withthe compound action of the clamp (down and towards the fence).
Sometimes you just need to tighten the knob a bit more.
Get in the habit of pushing the SMT forward not by pushing on the fence/knob, but applying most of your force to the SMT, or to the fence where the pivot is plugged in.

IIRC, another thing that caused this issue was the way the pivot pin is oriented in the fence slot. One side of the pivot pins base is flat and the other side has spring grooves cut into it. The flat side should be oriented on the face side of the fence.If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'
