    Inherited BT3000/Need source for parts

When my Dad passed away in 2004, I received his BT3000. Dad had taken it apart to replace the VBelts, but never got around to it. I need a source for VBelts. Anyone know of one? I found some suggetions in a post or two, which were dated 2004, but these sites don't seem to have any BT3000 parts anymore.

Also, I noticed on a different post here that some have converted their BT3000 to the BT3100 shim system. What is the BT3100 shim system? Should I convert to it while I have the saw apart?

I don't plan to do any fancy wood working, just plan to use the BT3000 for things like arbors, fences etc.

    Thanks,
    Ed

The motor bracket rides up and down on a fixed ramp. It has four shims to make the movement smooth.

Yes, you should upgrade to the B3100 shims while your assembly is apart.

The old shims were designed such that the locating tabs on top and bottom could break off. This would allow the shim to slip out of position, ruining the motion of the assembly. The new shims are less prone to this failure.

The shims cost only a couple of bucks.

FWIW - in case you don't have a manual, a complete parts breakdown can be found here http://www.ryobitools.com//service-support/manuals

IMHO there is little reason to upgrade the shims to the newer style. The dreaded "shim" problem although not exactly rare was not a wide spread issue. Adding shim supports ala Norm in Fujino is all that is needed to make the shim breakage a non-issue for the life of your saw. Details can be found in the articles section under my pen.

Take Loring up on his offer! He has compiled a Q&A that is quite exhaustive based on years and years of many differing users.

I've had great success with M&D and customer service. I ordered some new switches and used the wrong part number, they sent me 2 new ones, didn't want the old ones back and didn't charge me for the difference or extra shipping (my fault I ordered the wrong part).
