    Ooops... Sliding Table Slid Off

When rolling my saw the other day, the sliding miter table slid off the rails and onto the floor. The four plastic tabs that guide the slide mechanism are all snapped. Now I have a disabled sliding miter table.

I would love to either repair mine, or maybe even better, add or buy a new miter guage or sled to replace the included SMT. I have the miter slot add on, so using a conventional miter guage is a viable option.

    Any thoughts?

I think the timing on the two of you couldn't be better.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I think the SMT tabs are reversible so depending how they snapped off you might be able to just switch them around and have it work. It might get you going while you wait for parts or whatever you decide to do.

What Tim said is correct. Unless the tabs are broken down the middle, they can be reversed (horizontally) and used again. You can also order them from Sears.

Lee and Tim are right about reversing the broken pieces. You can do it once.

If you want to buy BT31/3000 parts from sears on the web,
          the web site is www3.sears.com
and look up the 315.228110 for the BT3000 equivalent saw
or 315.218290 for the BT3100 equivalent saw.
Not everything will 100% match but most critical parts are the same.
For the latches I would look at both saws, curiously the
exact same parts for one saw are much cheaper for the other.
I think the latches would be identical.

          Good luck.
Below are two relevant exceprts from the BT3 FAQ. If you want a copy send me your e-mail per my sig line below.

Things that can go wrong with the SMT:
          •
You dropped the SMT and broke the latches. You can order replacement latches. Actually the
latches reverse, so if you broke one you can reverse it and break it again, I mean, you can
          keep using it.

Avoid the Five Things a newbie often breaks on a BT3:
          •
The ends of the miter fence, or the miter fence itself get cut if the SMT or miter fence is set
          too far to the right

          •
The zero stop on the SMT, its real brittle metal and slamming the miter fence into it will do it.

          •
The latches on the SMT when they drop it, or unlatched, it falls off as they move the saw
          around

          •
The eccentric screws (they’re real brittle) that set the SMT alignment – know how they work
          before you adjust them

          •
The belts. If you freeze the blade when starting, the belts will go to protect the motor. This
occurs in making ZCTPs, and if the wood closes up around the blade.

By the way, thanks for the link. I bought his SMT for $20. It's in transit via FedEX now.

            Thanks.
