    Thanks a lot Tom. That's like the European guards I've seen I thought it was a great idea when I saw it but it must have run out my ear when I tipped my head. I've got some aluminum angle I'll try it this weekend.

      Hacksaw

      I used a hacksaw. A hacksaw will cut straighter than a jig saw or grinder. Scratch a line on the splitter. Start the cut with the blade at a very shallow angle, so the cut will be aligned with the line. The steel is soft and cuts pretty fast.

      File the cut edges and round the leading edge.

      An easy way to mark the cut-line: Attach the un-cut splitter. Lower the blade to about 1/8th inch above the throat plate. Scratch the line parallel with the throat plate.
