    3000 vs. 3100

I purchased a 3000 5 yrs back and have given it only moderate use, as I am a novice woodworker. Last month I went to raise the blade and it was difficult to do so as it felt like it was binding. I just learned of this site and did not know of any problems with the 3000. I did know that the 3100's at Home Depot were getting scarce and bought one, as I liked using my 3000 and thought I could use parts to expand my new saw. What is the problem with the 3000 and what is different with the new 3100 that fixes the 3000's problem(s)?

You may very well have the Shim problem,

    http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=19968

is a link to the BT3 Freq asked questions.
    Click on the link,
then search for "raising" or look for the questions on raising the blade or similar.

    Its discussed thoroughly there.

Also there is a question on the differences between 3000 and 3100

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

It's also worth considering lubing the lift mechanism. You'll find it underneath the skins on the right side of the saw. Be sure to use a non-silicone lube.
