    Box joint jig for SMT

    I've been toying with the idea of making a box joint jig for the SMT for a couple of weeks now. Anyways, I started working on it last night and I realized that because the miter fence can slide from side to side and the T-nuts will allow the jig to slide as well, it will be almost impossible to get the jig to index exactly on the dado blade. That being the case, this jig is probably just a waste of time. Am I overlooking the obvious? I suppose I could scribe a mark on the fence, table, and jig but then how accurate would it be? Maybe I just need to suck it up and buy a miter slot table.
    Measure once...cut a whole bunch of times!

      It's pretty easy actually. Suppose you are making a 1/4" jig,
      you have a 1/4" dado blade and a 1/4" index bar. You also need a 1/" setup bar, basically a piece of stock cut to accurate 1/4", possibly the same material as the index bar.

      Just place the setup bar between the blade and the index bar, slide the SMT over so that it's a close slip fit, lock the miter fence knob, and presto, you're there!

              Hello, I just bought my BT3100 a couple of weeks back. I have been making a jewelry box for the wife and was using my old saw with a box joint jig I made. Since the BT3100 doesn't have miter groves on it I was stumped. Then it hit me to use the sliding bed and holding bar with the front of my jig. It worked flawlisly. I'll take a pick of it to post in a couple of days.
