    saw blade for the BT3100

Just purchased from Home Depot a Porter Cable 100VT50 10" variable tooth
carbide blade for under $30.00 ! If you guys/gals want a fantastic cutting,
quiet running saw blade you need to get this one! It came highly recommended from a friend, and old-timer in woodworking ( 40 years exp.).
He had nothing but good remarks about it...I was skeptical until I watched him in his shop with his saw....then I knew I had to have one. I cut several
pieces of poplar and birch plywood with mine...this blade cut so smooth and quiet it was unbelievable. The wood didn't even need sanding when done!
I was and am still dissatisfied with the Ryobi blade that came with the saw,
never has been up to par with me. This blade reduced the saw noise in the shop a good 10 decibels or more that makes a lot of difference to me.

It's under $28 at the store, $30 on the HD website. I bought one to try.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

I was going to start a new thread but this one seems to fit.

I cut a lot of thin plywood, I'm thinking that my stock blade is going to tear the wood up. Can I get some recommendations as to type, number of teeth, even brand, for 1/4 to 1/2 plywood please?

Acutally I think you won't have a problem. Used mine often for that size plywood with no tear out. Be sure you use a ZCTP though, that's what makes the difference more than the blade in this case.

Thanks Ken, will try it. I've been using a circular saw with a plywood blade, material upside down. Upside down with TS too?

Couple of days back, I cut 1/2" and 3/4" baltic birch plywood. 2'x5' each. No problem. The cut was very smooth. Be prepared for lot of dust though..

If you have a China made ryobi blade, your results may vary, if you have the original italian freud blade, it should be pretty good. My dad's new saw has the China made blade, and I'm not too impressed with it. The saw does a lot better with a good blade.

When cutting ply with a circ saw, I went and got a 40T carbide freud blade, and it's brilliant. On the TS, you could setup a 60T carbide blade, or a good combo blade from forrest, or freud and get great results. Ken is correct, nothing beats having support directly beside the cut line for tear-out issues, a ZCTP is a good idea.

Blade is Ryobi, not Freud. I do have a ZCTP installed. Seems I heard Amazon had Freud on sale, maybe I'll check it out later today.

                Thanks guys.
