    Skil 6in Dado Set Clearance

Just saw this tonight at Lowes. Skil steel (non-carbide) 6in Dado set on clearance for ~$14, marked down from $39. YMMV.

I had one of those. Save your money. Mind you, I am usually pretty fair minded on tools, doesn't have to be super expensive stuff for me, but this thing is junk...

Dave, I don't think I'd use it for the "fine furniture", but it looked similar to the Shop Smith version a neighbor gave me a few years ago which has done a passingly fine job on shop carts/cabinets and such. But I can't attest to Skil quality.

Mine wouldn't get anywhere near flat bottoms. Better than nothing. But expect to clean up with a Sharp chisel. I built my wife's step stool with it. The ships are paper.

If you rarely do dadoes its fine. It can be made to work, but it drove me nuts...

These have been on clearance for a while, at least around here. I picked up some around $5 along with some $0.50 saw blades when I got the CMT dado set a few weeks ago.

            WT,
You wouldn't happen to still have the receipt showing $5 do you?

I do, but I don't think it will help you - Lowes clearance prices are set by the store management and they usually won't price match other stores, even in the same area.

It would be worth a try if woodturner gives you a copy. If you could produce a paid receipt for that amount, the management might just go along with it.
