Looking at the website, some Lowes stores near me show $26 and other stores in the houston area show $39.

I think by now everyone realizes Lowes pricing is all over the place from one side of town to the other. All I can say is if theres a store close to you or in the very near area that has the item at a lower price 10 out of 10 times I have been able to get a price match from a store closer to me. Good luck and I'm hoping these will come in handy this fall and winter as I fear we in the south are in for a cold one.

I read the reviews, too, the bad one(s) said that when they pointed it at the AC/heating vent from 10 feet away it gave erratic readings. THat is typical, the sensor field of view is too wide to read a small object like a AC vent at 10 feet. I would measure from no more than 2 feet away.

Other mistakes people make with infrared thermometers is using the laser pointer too close (like checking individual ICs on a PC board). Parallelax - the axes of the laser and IR sensor are separated by about 3/4 inch.

$38 in the TC... anyone willing to pick up and extra and ship it? I'm installing some hydronic heating systems, and I need something like this to check the temp drop in order to balance the systems.

Just got one at the 11.60 price and did a quick

test of it. Works as advertised when I checked the back door; has a small leak and it detected it. So overall, for the sales price, ya just can not go wrong.
And I agree with you Loring on the 2 bad reviews. Ten feet is too far for this detector to work properly. The distances I worked from was about 16 inches to 2 feet. I looked in the manual for a distance reference and it dosn't give that. That's why people think it'll work upto 10 feet away. B n D work get a good rating if they printed a working distance of say 16 inches to maybe 3 feet, (will check to see how accurate it is a 3' later).

                  B&D Thermal leak

I have the need to detect leak through the box created to mount the fireplace (this box projects out to the wall over the deck). Will this detector work?
