    Cheap depth gage

Tire tread gage but works for holes, dadoes, etc. Basic mechanism of the digital calipers but with short 1" stroke probe with .01mm or .0005" resolution.

    $8 but there's like $6.50 shipping.

You could very easily mount a U-frame to it to measure height of table saw blades, router bits etc. since it has a zero button and can measure negative depth.

Neat, but would that be the same as if I buy a digital caliper from HF and cut off its head? Advantage being I could pick one for around the same price and not pay shipping.

the ones from HF are very hard stainless steel. I tried messing with one and gave up.

That sounds feasible, but, you would have to cut it exactly at the right place, and you would also lose the inside measure tab.
