Ryobi Drill/Impact Driver at Home Depot

I have the Ryobi Drill, Circular Saw, Reciprocating Saw and Jig Saw. As of yesterday, I have another drill and the impact driver. I had been wanting the latter but $70 for that without a battery didn't seem like such a great deal. Sunday I saw HD had an add for the drill/driver combo for $99. I looked at the package and thought it came with just one battery. I decided it was still a better deal than the driver alone so I bought it. When I got it home, I discovered it has two batteries. The batteries would be $60, the driver $70 plus you have the drill, the charger, and a pretty nice little bag for them. Seems like quite the deal to me.

These are the 18V system, Ni-Cd batteries.

    Thanks for the call out!
Can anyone compare this Impact Driver to the Dewalt First Generation 18V Impact Driver?
Mine just started to die out and I don't think it can be rebuilt so I was looking to replace it, but for $99 this may be a better deal?
Every tool you own is broken, you just don't know it yet :-)

I don't know how I did things with out the driver. It is great for both driving screws as well as taking them out. Just watch out it has a lot of torque and I've stripped some screws.

It also works great on lag bolts.

I got mine when they were offering the "free tool" with the 5 piece combo kit last year.

I don't have anything to compare it to, but the Ryobi impact driver is fantastic. I've never had a fastener that it failed on, including large hex-head lag screws.

It is very powerful, plus the impact action actually makes it a lot less likely for the driver bit to cam-out of the screw head. After each impact the bit reseats itself securely in the screw head.

It's pretty noisy, but that is true across the board for impact drivers.

I looked for this deal tonight. Nothing, not even showing that combo on their website.
They had the 12V drill and Right Angle driver set for $69.99

I own the Dewalt and I've used the Ryobi. From my experience, the Dewalt seemed to be a little more heavy-duty and generally a better tool - but not by a huge margin. My Dewalt ID came with a bundle that I rec'd as a gift and I have more DW batteries than Ryobi. If my Dewalt ID were to die, I wouldn't hesitate to replace it with the Ryobi if there was too much of a price differential.

I have the Dewalt, Hitachi and Ryobi impacts. Their power is in that order, and so is the price. The Ryobi is definately the best buy as the Dewalt is 4x that price. I would not say it is worth the difference in price. Also, these impacts are not to be mistaken for the drill/impact drivers. A drill/impact is a drill that someone puts a screwdriver bit into and rounds out the head of the screw. Once you use the impact driver you will understand.

It was shown in the HD Sunday April 25 ad, at least in our newspaper. But it's not on the website, except in the "local ad" deal. Go figure.

I have the ryobi ID and for my use it is great. If I were to be using it all day every day I might be considering something more heavy duty but for general shop use and an occasional "screw fest" it has performed flawlessly.

I bought the Ryobi ID a couple of years ago at HD on sale for $29. Best tool ever for the price, other than a free tool. I had been wanting a second ID and was in HD at Lenoir City, TN two weeks ago and the price for this "Special Buy" was $119. Like JimD, I thought it only had one battery so passed it up. Then a couple of days ago I was there again for some PT 2x8's and saw it had a "new low price" of $99 so had to have it. I was surprised to find it had two batteries and also a 1/4 hex to 3/8 drive adapter with the ID. I asked for the Vet discount at checkout so came to $89.10. Can't beat that with a stick.
