Is it me... Or are there just less deals

I was looking at my past 3 years of Amazon purchases and wow many of the items were great deals. The bosh Jigsaw for $69 shipped. Jet Cabinet saw with extension table and router lift for $1100... Over the past 6-10 months the good deals seemed to be few and far between. Unless it's just me and I have too many tools to see some of these deals as bargains.
Every tool you own is broken, you just don't know it yet :-)

You may be right... The cuts in factory production of "luxury" items, and the fallback in building trades have not made for warehouses full of tools these days. Most businesses are running as lean as they can, and waiting for the economy to bounce back, and I think big discounts to clear floor space, or make room for new models (that aren't coming) are few and far between. I think we'll probably have to wait for those now infamous Amazon or Sears "pricing anomalies" to get really good deals for a while...

I agree with your observation that some of the *fantastic* deals that Amazon used to have, are just things of the past. I got in on a Bosch 1617EVSPK router a few years back, but now, it seems harder to build up my toolchest without the bargains. Let's all do the raindance and hope Amazon brings back the rains and the rainforest.. err bargains!

well, there's also the possibility that you have fewer needs and wants toolwise than you did a couple of years ago...

some of those bargains are fleeting and you have to be on your toes... maybe some of us are not as "hungry" as we were three or four years ago and don't watch so carefully as we used to.

I agree that there isn't near as many screaming deals as there has been. Usually seemed to be about 10 great deals from amazon every year, the last couple years, not near as much.

You buy when there are deals, then you need less, and a BIG reason several members here caught deals, moved from fishing the Amazon, to fishing elsewhere.

Not just one thing but a combination of items.

1 Simple word, GREED,Now that the economy is starting to show life corporate america is back to its old self. They dumped the overpriced inventory and are now renegotiating with suppliers at reduced prices to fill there coffers with newer higher prices on more overpriced chinese and taiwianese tooling. Those days of Delta,Bandsaw,Jointers,Dust collecters for $50-$150 days are gone. We will still be able to get the usual cheap routers and drills cause they do not take up much shelf space , but everything else will be special order as new stores will lower there sq. ft. as the commercial real estate market goes bust in the next yr or so.But I did so enjoy the DW 735 deals at HD last mo. Those 5 I got for $137 a piece made me a pretty penny down here in the south. Too bad those did nor make it up north or the northwest. I know a lot of people are still looking for them. And I have my eye on 14 of them still available here in the south, just have not come down to that price yet.Isn,t capitalism grand.

I expect to see a few more good deals before long. With Christmas coming rapidly, they'll be wanting to get their fair share of business. Even free shipping alone could equate to maybe 20% savings, in some cases.

Black Friday will be the real test. From the Woodcraft flyer it looks that there will be deals to be had. I was hoping for more than an additional 10% sticker, or for the sticker to apply to power tools, but there are still reasonable deals there.

On the other hand, I've yet to see my Rockler BF mailer, but I have an inkling feeling that my mailman shops there since the discount sticker was missing from my most recent catalog.

I think the main difference is almost all the deals aren't coming from one place, Amazon. A year or so ago I could almost count on a monthly killer deal. Now we just have to look in different places.

Here are a few I got

                          Dewalt DW735 - $137
Ridgid Jointer - $107 (or close to that. basically low 100's)
                          Work Sharp - $18
                          PC Mag 423 - $66
Jet Parallel clamps - 50% off various sizes

And these are only the items I wanted. There were other deals I saw posted but decided to pass on them. The giant Sears planer comes to mind. I guess the main difference is that we actually have to go to the stores to find these deals. You gotta work a little harder but I think there are still deals to be had.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Here is a list of tools for the Black Friday sale. List is short right now because many of the stores haven't released their ad yet. Some pretty decent deals on routers.

I think Amazon has simply changed their goal from growth to profitability.

Other outlets are probably relieved in that they don't have to offer the same sorts of killer deals to keep their customer base satisfied.
