That is an excellent price for that unit. What would the freight be to your destination? It still may be worthwhile.

I wouldn't say freight kills the deal. The total price, without sales tax is just over $1000. I put it in the cart and saw they took an additional $90 from the price. That, with $504 shipping puts it to $1000+.
Grizzly sells a 20" planer for about $1500 + shipping.
I would have to put a concrete pad in my shop to hold that thing though. Also rewire to a larger power capacity to power it. I think I'll pass.

I'll give it a go. I paid the extra $75 for the premium delivery. According to the Sears description they will place it in your home at the location of your choosing. What are the chances they can get this thing into my basement? I don't have a walkout.Comment

Thought about it briefly, but I don't really need a 20" planer - especially a 780 lb one of unknown manufacture and quality.--------------------------------------------------

I don't think it is a pricing error, just clearance or closeout. Those 17" dp's sat at my local store for months, they kept marking them down. Guess I should have jumped when they got to $75, but I didn't really need another dp.--------------------------------------------------

If you place the order on the computer in a Sears store, the shipping is free - at least for most items. I don't know if it would work on this planer or not, but might be worth a try if you really want the planer.

That would be an awesome price with no shipping cost!!The anticipation of death is worse than death itself!
So don't worry about using those power tools in the rain with a frayed cord!Comment

I spoke with the store manager at my local store. I know him personally and know he wouldn't try to BS me. He told me the reason for the freight charge is because it is not coming out of a Sears warehouse, it is coming directly from the manufacturer/distributor.
So even if it was delivered to a Sears store it would still be delivered via motor freight and freight charges would be incurred.
He said his hands were tied on this one. Nothing he could do about the freight charge.
I tried!

gave it a whirl
Went down to sears and the store manager will refund the shipping cost upon pickup at the store. Took awhile to go thru all the hoops, but I got it done. Should have a nice fat planer in a couple weeks. 90 bucks off the 599 as well. Screamin deal.-RolloComment
