Surplus school equipment site - FWWI

Until recently I thought this was a California only operation but noticed they now have stuff for sale in Maryland. It's some folks who put surplus school district stuff (I guess from closed wood shop programs) for auction on ebay. It is hit or miss...sometimes they have stuff and other times nothing.

It's a sad note that schools are getting rid of their "shop" classes. Some of my best times in school were cuttin' wood and makin' sparks.

the kids nowadays are probably making fond memories of hacking into your credit card account in computer technology classes.

Cities/school districts (any gov't entity) should be listing this stuff on eBay where it will fetch a far larger return for taxpayers. Why would they list it on the bumble-f auction site unless they want to see the price stay low so friends/employees can purchase the gear for cheap?

They ARE listing on eBay, this is just the "storefront" site. Example from the store - a currently listed Unisaw (only $90 bucks, 2 days left) and the eBay links:

Vintage Delta Rockwell 10" Unisaw, R Tilt with Guards
            eBay: 330343305441
            Starting Bid: $89.95
            Current Bid: $89.95
            Number of bids: 1

            Near Towson, MD
Ends in 2 days 7 hours

Check out the FAQs about the site. IMHO, school districts don't (or shouldn't) have the time or expertise to market stuff on ebay. This outfit got started doing that in the SF bay area and it has spread. Still, there are bargains to be had if you are close to where a machine is located, which is why I posted it here in Bargain Alerts.

Looks like some of the machines are 3 phase. That may be why they are going as cheaply as they are.

We were out of town last week visiting relatives. In the corner of a high school parking lot I spotted an 18" Rockwell planer sitting their being exposed to the elements. Weighing in at ~ 500# and being 255 miles from home with family in tow, there wasn't much I could do about it, but I was shocked that they'd let that investment sit there and rust. I told my BIL's about it, but I doubt either of them are up to a rehab on it. ...sad...

Attention Glens Falls/Lake George area woodworkers...said planer is in the corner of the Queensbury school parking lot over near the baseball diamonds. I'll bet they'd let it go cheap.
