    Is this guy NUTS??

    First line from the add:

"I am not a dealer... my husband just wants a different saw than I purchased for him."

Well, golly geez Dear, it's nice, but I really wanted the bigger model!

OK, so why don't they just take it back where they bought it, and swap it for whatever he wants? Something is fishy in this hen-house...

The rule in my house is, if it is a significant amount of $$$, the giftee is consulted about the make/model.

Ours as well. Its very rare that I would ever get a suprise gift from LOML related to either of my expensive hobbies (WWing & Photography). She says she is too scared to get the wrong thing. She always wants make/model and best place to buy.

I would check it carefully for dents from it's fall off the truck.

The suggested price is just above 70% of new, which means they are going through a lot of hassle to avoid a 30% restocking fee, or they would have to pay shipping as well. I doubt it is hot, we have all seen those posts and that does not look like one.

                ! My thoughts too.

But there is a legitimate possible reason - she buys from Amazon for $649, shipping free. Hubby-dear does not know a good thing when sees one, so wants something else. They are unwilling to spend for the return shipping, so they find out AllProTools sells it for $966, and they have a story ready...

typical for sale ad, they said it RETAILS for 966. They didn't say that's what they paid. A bit of searching reveals $650 at Amazon (and someone said that's free shipping... and no taxes)

Sounds a bit peculiar but if i wanted one and it didn't seem to be hot, I wouldn't let that stop me from buying.

It might not hae fallen of the truck, but it might keep the shop warm in the winter!

My guess is that they got it from some place like Amazon, and they're just listing full retail to make it seem like a good deal.

And as far as the saw goes, would I love it? Of course I would. But if I was a big time turner, working with big logs to make bowls, this wouldn't do it for me. Most of my turner friends like the much bigger saws with the bigger clearance between guard and table.
