    OSS @ HF for $80

I was looking at the Triton OSS that Woodcraft has on sale for $129, and decided to check the HF website on my Google Phone. Surprise, the same exact system, same exact specs (just different color plastic) for $119. I have the 20% off coupon that was posted here the other day, so decided to go to HF and pick it up. Take it to the register, hand him the coupon and he rings it up an says "You saved $20". I corrected him and said, "You mean I saved $24, right?". He says it's currently on sale for $99, so I'm out the door for $80 and tax. Sweeet ....

I have been looking at this OSS at HF. I also have a 20% off coupon and it is very tempting at $80. It seems most people recommend the Ridgid model but I am on the fence about getting this one or waiting (saving) to get the Ridgid.

Let us know how you like it.

The Rigid is nice, but I have gotten everything I have needed out of my HF. Unless you need a tilting table or convertibility to a belt/edge sander, you probably will, too.

UC, how is the dust collection with the HF sander? What do they mean when they say "built-in dust collection"? Is it an actual collection port or something else.

FWIW, Menards used to carry (and maybe still does) a version of this same OSS, at around the same price before coupon. The only difference that I see is that the Menards version has a 2.5" DC port, and the HF has a smaller port, at least on the floor model I looked at.

It has a 1" collection port on the rear just below the table level that you can hook a ShopVac to. It works fairly well, although it helps if you use a one-size-larger bezel (the ring you install to match the size of the drum you're using). It gives a little more room for downdraft airflow at the workpiece.

Thanks for the info on this sander. It looks like I will be making a trip to HF this week.

Joeygee - Menards carries the Performax version of this sander. It looks just like the HF one except the color. I think their regular price is $119.

FWIW, I have seen this sander at HF, and the old OSS that Ryobi used to sell. Aside from the plastic color, they appear 100% identical.

IF you need an OSS with tilting table, you will be sorely disappointed with this sander. (I have used the tilt feature on my Ridgid and would NOT want to be without a tilting table). BUT... If all of your spindle sanding tasks are to be done at 90 degrees, this is a good bargain, and it appears to be one of HF's gems...

The Ridgid rarely ever goes on sale, but with the Father's day coupons that Home Depot usually has, you can get the price down a bit...

This is NOT identical to the Ryobi version. I don't know if the motor matches or not, but the Ryobi had a much larger table area. One of the dumbest things I did was to sell that one.

I have had two of this sander, the first one fried the motor in about a week. I pulled the second one apart and put some lube on the osolation cams and it took a bit of load off the motor and made it is quieter the second one has worked well. I always buy the 2 year warranty on HFs stuff because if it fails in the two years just take it back and get a new one.

I like the idea of the Rigid OSS, but for $80 this is a great tool. I have the performax version that Menards carries, and it works very well.

Could there have been a running change to the HF unit? The one I have seen matches the Ryobi... Of course I have no idea about the motor and all, but externally, including the table it matches... No telling how long that demo model has been there...

I thought it was just bad photography on the HF website...
