Menards is selling out Makita tools

The two local Menards stores have placed all of their Makita tools on clearance. Word is that this is a storewide decision to discontinue stocking Makita tools. Prices are not that good yet but they may continue to drop... I did pick up the display model of an 18v lithium hammer drill (BHP 452) for $40. This was the bare tool... no charger or batteries. It may be worth watching your local store for continued price drops.

Just where ARE these Menards stores? I keep seeing the name here but nowhere else.

Menards is based in central Wisconsin and has stores about two or three states away in every direction. They're regional and it seems like every store has a Home Depot on one side and a Lowes on the other.

          Not that good....

$40 for a 18vlt LI hammer drill is pretty darn amazing good I'd say.

Yep - here in the Midwest they predate Lowes and HD. They just opened a new super-mega store here. Handy if your list includes mayonnaise, a lawnmower and sewer pipe I suppose. Often it is a PITA though because I now have to walk over 300 yards to get to the PT lumber.

They have actual driven me to pop into the local Ace Hardware more often than I used to when I just need a couple smaller things The new store does have a much nicer selection of plywood.

Our local menards had the groceries for a month or so, then got rid of them. I used to be a menards guy but after reading all the stuff on how much of a jerk the owner is, I no longer shop there.

The Menards here in Oak Creek, WI, (Milwaukee), is real tight about lowering the prices on their clearance items. They go down about 10 to 15 per cent off of original and then let it stay on the shelf for years! I'm not kidding. I always check them out and prices are the same that they were two years ago. I wonder why they want to keep the stuff and pay an inventory tax on it for years.

I prefer Lowes for clearance items. They have HUGE markdowns, sometimes up to 90 percent off. Got some real bargains there.

I noticed that all the Menards sheet goods around here are made in U.S.A or by our friends in Canada. The quality is very good, too.

Thanks for the alert on the clearance.

I have not heard this. Can you post a reference so the rest of us may know?

Also, my experience is the same on sheet goods. I can get plywood that is 10x better for just a few dollars more.

I have noticed the clearance items staying on the shelf at Menard's for years as well. I had my eye on some Bosch (I think) mortising chisels that were sitting on the clearance shelf at $90 for almost a year. I kept checking back to see if the price had gone down and even scanned the box myself a couple of times. The price never flinched.

                        Another thing that bothers me

I don't how many of you are in need of the motorized carts, but to the best of my knowledge, its the only one of the big box stores that have no care for the handicapped. I can not shop there anymore, because i cannot push my self and carry goods in the cart. They just put the new store in here, and i was hoping, but no deal.
