    Peltor Professional Noise Canceling Earmuff

This seems like a pretty good deal. It is part of today's gold box plus it has the AO Safety 15% off right now. They have a NRR of 29. This price is reduced to $13.14 when checking out.

Heads Up - if these are the ones I got a short time back they are NOT noise canceling (I returned them to Amazon).

We're going to have to go by *your* best assessment of the ad posted in the link. What do think? "If" is a pretty broad term for distinguishing anything. No rant intended.

If by "noise cancelling" you mean ACTIVE noise cancelling -- then NO. I purchased this exact set just over three years ago, and they're a straight set of passive, noise-reducing muffs. And they are excellent: significant noise reduction, lightweight, comfortable. But they contain ZERO electronics.

The price I'm seeing is $16.42, which I think is right at what I paid. This does not include the additional 15% AO Safety discount.

If these really are noise canceling, it's a good deal for km. Non-scheduled Goldbox deals are personalized to your viewing and buying habits so that discount may not apply to many.

Amazon carries over a dozen Peltor hearing protection products. If MBG had a problem with one it'd probably help others to know which.

unfortunate term they used. Not "noise cancelling" in that they don't use active noise feedback. "Noise attenuating" is a better term - 29 dB is pretty good, most run from 22 to 27 dB (more is better) I think its a good deal for that money... even noise cancelling have actual reduction from active cancellation no better than that. Active noise cancelling has the potential for lighter, smaller units, this one just uses brute force materials to block the noise. Ultimately, cheaper and probably more reliable.

              No rant intended.....right

Ironhat - just trying to help others that might buy these thinking they have some kind of active noise cancelation and save them the pain of returning them.

                MBG,

Lighten up. I would have typed the same thing if I had read this thread earlier. Ironhat put it rather cordially and even included a smiley. Your statement is of no help unless you can say for sure these are the ones you got.

Larry has since confirmed what these can and can't do so further clarification is not neccessary.

Regardless, I'm in for a pair at $13.
167 pretty positive Amazon reviews is a good sign IMHO.

Greg - I was just trying to let people know that the item description is deceiving / incorrect. It's still a good price for these but they are not noise canceling. BTY here is the old thread:

                  http://www.bt3central.com/showthread...nceling&page=2

Also, I bought a pair of real noise canceling headphones a little while back at TigerDirect for $39. They are made by Logitech. They were drastically reduced because there was a small amount of lead in the spring steel that required a special label in California. If you can find a pair I would highly recommend them. They are very light weight, comfortable, long battery life, comes with a nice storage case, cord for MP3 player, and work as well as Bose.

My first chance back of the forum and sadly saw your response, MBG. I was being sincere and really didn't mean anything negative by that. I apologize for sounding like I was ridiculing your post. Many apologies to you and to the entire forum for my poorly worded post. I hope that we are OK and I'd appreciate it if the matter was dropped by all. MBG, if you feel the need please post me a PM.

This is a good deal for a nice set of 'ear muffs'. Already had one pair, just added another.

                      Thanks.

I bought a Peltor headset when I was flying as a second set for a passenger and as backup set. I ended up using them over the DC's which are an industry standard and cost a bunch more. They were very comfortable and much quieter. Not sure how all that translates to this product but I would sure trust the brand.

I have the same pair pictured in the Amazon Ad. Bought them awhile back during another sale. Wore them today while today while using the miter saw for an extensive period. They are fairly light, comfortable and do the job as advertised.
