Hitachi dual bevel 12 inch CMS for $150

I just bought a reconditioned 12 inch dual bevel Hitachi CMS for just under $150 from this site:

    http://www.reconditionedsales.com/Hi...er___i189.aspx

I went ahead and got a 90 tooth blade and with shipping it came to about $230. I think that is a very good deal, especially for a dual bevel CMS. I wanted a dual bevel for two reasons. First, it lets you cut with the wood on one side of the saw regardless of what you are doing. Single bevel sometimes requires you to put the wood on the other side of the saw which is not always possible (if the piece is long and the space is tight). The other key advantage I see is when cutting crown upside and backwards against the fence. With a dual bevel the motor is up and out of the way so your capacity is not more limited on one side of the blade.

If you do not care about the dual bevel, they have a 12 inch for $130 and 10 inch for even less.

i've got a very stupid question, the hitachi C10FSH (the one that i have), is not a dual bevel, so that got me thinking what does dual bevel mean?

that saw can be tilted both towards the right or the left and can cut a miter in both directions. but by tilting right or left, isnt that dual bevel?

    excuse my ignorance.

If it bevels to both the right and the left then it's a dual bevel.

Miter refers to swinging the saw (parallel to the ground) where the lever is usually in front of the saw. The blade is always perpendicular to the ground.

Bevel is tilting the the saw. The blade is no longer perpendicular to the ground.

The explanations are fine but you can also recognize a dual bevel by the motor position. The saw above has the motor directly to the right of the blade. It cannot bevel to the right because the motor is in the way so it is not a dual bevel. Dual bevels connect the motor to the blade through gears or a pulley and locate it above the blade to get it out of the way.

i thought i saw that the c10fsb, was a dual bevel, but not the c10fsh. the book/box didnt use the words "dual bevel" in the description, but other saws by hitachi say dual bevel on, so this thing had me confused.

              Cms

They had this one about a week or so ago, for around $205ish shipped with free 12v drill/driver. Mighty tempting if someone needs a good saw. I'd certainly consider snagging one if my needs were different.
