    Finding the Bargains

TheRic, I do the same...always fun and sometimes you stumble on some increadible deals. I am always curious why HD and Lowes will carry slightly different stock (tools) in stores near each other and why items get clearanced out of one store before the other even when in the same district. I lucked into one of the Biesemeyer fence clearances and in talking to the Lowes' guy, he told me how last april they got rid of their Delta table saws (around $400) for $50 each one morning when the models changed. And a couple years ago, the HDs in the district by me put their laser and laser kits 50% off but stores just a few miles away, in a different district, didn't even have the sale going on - and they thought I was nuts when I asked about the sale.

It seems that each store manager can determine the going rate of clearance items. Look at it this way, lets say you are a manager at a Big Box Store in Texas, I'm in at a BBS in North Michigan. We get the notice that a certain model of Air Conditioners are going on clearance. Well you know its suppose to be warm the next couple of months. I'm starting to plan for winter items like snow shovels and de-icer. The chances of me selling a AC this late is slim to none, but I need the space. You know your going to sell many in the next couple of weeks. Which one of us is going to mark down the price more.

Even stores in the same area know that they will sell certain items faster at normal price than other items. Past experience shows that this item at this store sells, while the same brand store down the road had a different selling pattern.

I was surprised at how quite it is. I borrowed a friends PC pancake one the other day and it was too loud to have in the same room as my 5mo old daughter, I needed to hang some crown molding. I don't think she would even notice the Ridgid .
Wow I have been scouring my local HDs and havent found any. I even asked some of the tool guys, most of whom didnt even know there was a 2.5 gal model.

I know they have been available somehwere in the PHX metro as there are a few folks reselling them on CL for $150!!!!

Just curious about the part of PA as it appears that the district including Lancaster Co. never even received that item as a stocked item. Enjoy finding the Holy Grail of Deals!
I got it at the lebanon HD.
When this post started last month I called the lancaster and the lebanon one and they both told me they were out of stock. But I found this one behind some others. the box had a hole in it but the compressor was fine.
Since it was just a special thing I wonder how well they kept track of the stock.

              Greed?

Folks, please forgive this lengthy post in advance. I am a faithful reader of the forums here and enjoy it immensely. What few times I have asked any questions here the responses have always been excellent, and friendly. But I felt the need to at least offer an opinion on the greed aspect noted earlier. I work in the business development area for a large publicly traded corporation (100,000+ employees) that did 10s of billions in sales last year. So yes, I can see the benefits of greed, and it does play a major, and beneficial part in the success of our economy, and by extension, helps improve the lives of each of us. But having greed as your primary, all encompassing goal in life is not a good thing either because at its extreme, unbridled greed can really hurt a lot of people as well. There just has to be some level of fairness, and moderation, for the overall good of the country, and its citizens. Do we all really want to live in a world where it is literally a Darwinian survival of the fittest, dog eat dog, I got mine and I don't care what happens to everyone else situation? At the end of the day I personally don't believe the average hardworking person really wants that kind of world for themselves, or their fellow citizens.

I agree whole heartedly, and remember it is not money that is the root of all evil, but the love of money that is the root of all evil. Money is a wonderful medium that can and is used many times for the good of mankind.

I ahve been told that there are people in our area who buy up all clearance items, the store employees know tis person in my area as they come every day and ask for items, last time they bought up all Ridgid batterie.which actually happen to be on items that were to be on hold and they somehow go to my items before I got to the store. the sell them on ebay and CL. It is very hard to get a good deal with all this reselling going on. I actually saw the 2 battery kits on Ebay ,Ridgid 24v, that were supposed to be mine[I waiting for a commercial CC application, HD entered the wrong tax ID so it did not go thru], I know these were the kit because of the identical box damage to 1 of them that matched the PIC. They were going for $200 each, the price in the store $89. I have searched and even the Ridgid rep. but they are all gone, lots on ebay though.
