Braintree, MA high school wood shop auction

The entire contents of the high school wood and auto shops are being auctioned. See online at www.greatestauctioneer.com. There is a proxy online bidding system. Auction is (tomorrow) Saturday, 9/29, at 11:00 a.m.

Just saw the article in the local paper.

    Watch the buyers premium

16% over the internet is pretty steep. Likely shipping will hurt too.

You are certainly correct. In a way its a shame to see it sold off as it probably means some kids won't get the chance to learn woodworking.

My thoughts, too. Most of the tools apear to be from the 60's to 70's era and well maintained. Some older, like the Stanley dowell cutter. (Listed as a rotary cutter) Like to see what some of them bring.

sure look like some nice old powermatic tools there. And looks like they're well kept.

Too bad they won't be learning /exposing the kids to woodworking anymore. I think even if the kids don't make a career out of it they will learn to plan ahead some, something that woodworking teaches you - to think out a few steps ahead.

FYI, here's a link to the story Chris referenced. It's very sad.
"it has been more than three years since any Braintree High School student took a wood or auto shop class. The electrical shop, which has been closed for even longer than that, now houses an early childhood education program."
"School officials hope the auction will generate $40,000 to $100,000. If select men allow the school department to keep the proceeds - the tools are technically considered surplus town property - the money will be used to buy modern technology, such as computers, servers and routers."
