What's the value of a BT3 Kit now?
Ah, what's the worth of a BT3 Kit?
The individual parts list out (retail) at around $200
The list price for the kit was $99 and lots of people paid that.
Between water damaged freight and clearance sales many kits went for $20, .01 and yes, even free for the coupon rebate with a new saw for a while. When there was the water-damaged freight sale there were many avaialble at eBay and other places, same when they were given away as a promotion with a new saw. Many were "parted out".
Now the availability is spotty. So the value depends entirely upon how badly the buyer wants it and how attached (or profit hungry) the seller is.
The BT3 FAQ (see sig line below) has a discussion of the various parts and their usefullness. The kit did not include two of the more useful BT3 accessories - long rails and the micro-adjuster.
You have to take into account what you want from the kit vs. the whole kit price, sometimes you'll just be better off buying the pieces.
With my current familiarity with the BT3 family, you can make most items in the kit better than buying the kit.
The hardest to make would be the router opening rings, you can buy these for a few bucks from the auth parts dealers.
The miter clamp is cool if you like it - some people don't.
The Throat plates, the miter slot table, the router mounting plate can all be made pretty easily from wood or plastic.
The rest of the router kit, the rear clamp is useful but you can make one, the rest of the router fence stuff is not very useful.
The bag - well, you're better off with a shop vac which you need anyway.
The wheels, its a standard pattern & size, you can buy a pair for around $10 or less.
The bottom line - for convenience, the kits worth something - I think its very much a matter of personal need or preference. somewhere between 0 and 100 bucks.Last edited by LCHIEN; 09-17-2007, 10:52 AM.
