    New Parts Bin Solution

For years I have for some reason put up with those little parts holders with the tiny drawers of which you have to pull out each one at random until you find what you need. I am sure I am not alone in this. In the quest to find the perfect solution I at one point decided to build my own.

Recently I came across this little guy:

    http://urlx.org/harborfreightusa.com/94472

at HF and thought it was pretty sweet. However, I don't necessarily need all of the included hardware, and I really need 2.

At $69 each on sale right now that's a pretty price to pay. I was wondering if anyone else has an off the shelf solution similar to this or even better than this that I may have overlooked in my research.

EDIT: Sorry I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum. Should have been in 'Tool Talk'.

    Thanks,

If you want something similar, you can buy flat rectangular boxes with one lid and plenty of small compartments. Sold in hardware stores and also you'll find a large assortment in sporting goods stores for fishing tackle. Many have ajdustable dividers.

Buy six or eight of these, then build a custom cabinet/box with slots for all of them. - one slot per box.
Two 1/2 or 2/4 plywood sides, dadoed for 1/4 or 3/16 plywood shelves and a back will work great. The thin shelves won't sag because the box provides most of the support.

That way you don't have to buy the 2010 screws and bolts twice.

Yeah that's what I had in mind when I was going to build my own. I bought a bunch of nice big compatimentalized containers from Wal-Mart and was going to build a box for them. I just kind of like the way this one worked and looked quite a bit.

I will probably end up building my own but if I could find somethign similar to the HF one in the right price range I think I'd go that route.

      Thanks for your reply.

I use the small plastic cabinets with the clear drawers. Sounds like you're doing the same thing.

I'm happy with the set I've found because it has three different sizes of drawers. I've managed to scrounge together four cabinets of the exact same size and shape, so they stack neatly on one another. The kind I have a standard address label fits just right on the smallest size drawer. I've labeled most of the drawers so I can find what I'm looking for pretty quickly.

I like the capability of pulling just one drawer out and carrying it with me around the shop.

I have two of these and they work great. A whole lot cheaper also.
