Anyone buy bits from these guys?

I saw these on ebay and thought I might as well get some bits I don't have yet. FYI, I am a very occasional woodworker. I have a box project in mind and have a need for a lock miter bit.

I would also like to know if a PC 690 is enough to run these bits.

Personally I would be leary of those bits. 1-2 of those bits should be at least $65. The quality can't be there and those style bits I would want good ones. I paid ~$40 for a lock miter at MLCS and it didn't last through 2 projects. I replaced it with a Woodcraft one at $44 and it has lasted several projects and is going strong. For a CMT or Whiteside you're looking at $100+ for just the lock miter, but they will probably last years.

1 3/4hp is marginal in my opinion, may be o.k. if you precut the miters on your TS before using the bit. I find that best anyway.
Good luck, a lock miter is a 'learning experience'. Be sure to make test cuts using stock of exactly the same thickness as your project. Use the final test pieces as a setup block for your project stock.

Admittedly, I haven't tried those. They might be fine...but they might not either. There are so many well proven value bits that I see no reason to take an unnecessary risk on an unproven entity....and there is risk when spinning a cutting at 20K rpms. Not to mention that $75 isn't a cheap experiment, so no advantage over other choices that I see.

For lower cost value bits, I'd stick with Holbren, Price Cutter, Woodcraft, MLCS, Woodline, or Grizzly. For top shelf, I'd go with Whiteside, Freud, Infinity, CMT, Eagle America, or Amana.

A lock miter is a lot of trouble to set up and use. Among other things the wood has to be precisely the same thickness.
Too much trouble unles you are making a lot of them.

I almost bought from them until I got the 24 bit set from Holbren. I haven't even powered up my GMC router that I got at $48 from Amazon.

Anyway, I emailed that seller with a question and received an immediate reply. The feedback is very impressive and I for one (admitting to not having actual experience) believe they are selling top quality products; just my sense from the tone of his email.

If you ask, and hint at posting your expeience on a Forum, bet he offers you a satisfaction guarantee. I'd be interested.

Just to say, I AM NOT AFFILATED with this seller in any way.

If you have a regular 690 PC router, then it is a single speed and the bit would be rotating @ 22,000 rpm. A 2 3/4 inch router bit should be run @ 12000 rpms or a little less. If you plan on using these bits get a router speed controller, or better yet you probably should get a bigger router to safely handle large bits.

I have never used that brand bits but it looks like he has a lot of satisfied customers. Over 3600 positives. Like someone else said I would not want to use those bits in a single speed router.

What he said above. Why take the chance with the Ebay bits when you know you can get reliable service and a great value from known suppliers that even give a BT3central discount and special offers at times? Go for the Holbren or use a coupon at Woodcraft if you have to.

I have bought set of their bits. I have been using them for over a year and have no complaints. Now are they Whiteside quality? Absolutely not! But I have found them to be a good deal overall. After all that I should tell you I have a different set than the one you are looking at.

I'll second or third the opinion on Holbren. Great bits Great prices and even better service.
