Craftsman 21400 10" BS $99

This is the lowest price I've seen on the Craftsman 21400. EricS wrote a good review in the Tool Talk Forum.

Looks pretty good to me. Trying to think of a good reason not to get this.

I know I need a bandsaw, but I'm going to have to change my shop layout before I can find a good spot for it. But, that's a question for the "Shop Setup, Layout, and Design" forum.

I wished that had been available when I bought my first $99 BS, the Ryobi BS900. It actually worked pretty well, but was plastic and aluminum with no fence and a 3" resaw. This things got a 5" resaw, cast iron table, fence...does it have a light too?

I missed the Hitachi BS blowout a while back. Although I still don't know where I would have put it. This one may be much easier to fit in my shop. It sounds like the blade that comes with it isn't the greatest. Does anyone have a suggestion for where to get a better blade?

I went to Sears to check out the $99 bandsaw and they had the 10 in. Tilting Head Band Saw on clearance for $120.97, so I picked up the last box (I'm in Los Angeles). The Sears website still shows this saw at $249.99, Item # 21461.

The stock blade isn't that bad, or at least it wasn't on my 22400. Hard to go too wrong with the Timberwolf blades from Suffolk Machinery. Other's like the Lennox blades.

If you do call Suffolk, ask if they still have the "443" deal. (4 blades for the price of 3 to new customers...if you're not a new customer, maybe your sister would qualify! )

That is a great deal. I thought it was a steal when I bought for quite a bit more. Timberwolf still has the buy 4 pay for 3 deal and that is what I got. I agree that adjusting the bearings is a PITA but it doesn't look like it would be too hard to modfiy them ( at least the uppers ) by cutting off the tab and tapping the end of the nut? ( the round bar that the bearings screw into ) and then locktite in a short piece of allthread and then put on a washer and a wingnut and turn the wingnut to adjust. Of course I have not gotten around to doing that yet .

Went in and got the 21400 BS for $99. On the wayout saw the 10" tilting BS on closeout for $113.97. This was at Woodfield.

Sears 10" bandsaw

If you are contemplating a new bandsaw....this is a good one to have!
I bought one of these a year or so ago on sale for $139.00 regular price of
$149.00...$99.00 is a terrific price. It does not have a light, sometimes wish that it did...but no big thing. Smooth running, quiet operation, and very reliable...I think this is one built by Orion or Rikon. I'm still using the stock supplied blade on mine, it cuts everything I throw at it with no problems so far. eezlock
