Seems to have mix reviews but I desperately need one. Unfortunately CFO has put a freeze on the power tool purchase entitlement. Man, how I wish I was still in Sales because this is about the time of the year when I get my incentives from last year.

You simply need to point out to the CFO that most investors like to see investments in R&D and labor saving plant automation. With panel sanding and other activities you could see a 50% efficiency gain, allowing you to cut your headcount in half (in a one man shop... ).

I have a 10/20". I like it and use it a lot, though larger would be better (though the footprint for this is easier to deal with). However, at the time I bought it, with sales and discounts it was under $400 and the 18" model's were more than double that. At $599 that would have been a much harder call.

You might also point out that, given the dip in producer spending which contributed to yesterday's stock market dip, it is your patriotic duty purchase capital equipment!

LOL.. I love this. So, to add to this peer pressure, I'll tell you that this as good a price on this thing as I've ever seen even with the shipping. So, there is a lost opportunity cost here as well. Given that you eventually need one... lol - nah, don't get in hot water over power tools, that's what I always say. I'm in a bit of budget freeze myself, I know the feeling.

All that said, I have this bad boy in the shop and I do like it quite a bit. Didn't have any issues with mine but the trick is to not take off much material at any given time. 1/64" at a time is pretty much max. One thing, at least for me, a mobile base was a requirement so you would have to figure that into the cost as well.
