    GMC three-base router $49.95

Ok, so it's not the best router in the world. It's still 2+ HP, variable speed w. soft start, comes with a case and the three bases, and has a 1/2" collet.

Amazon currently has a few left at this price (normally 90-120).

Great router for lending to the brother-in-law, keeping at the cottage, experimenting with arcane setups like the old Fine Woodworking horizontal routing machine thing or anywhere that removing a router is going to be a pain.

Sure beats the HF weirdo cheapies.

I bought the jigsaw for about $35 this summer and thought it was a pretty good deal for that price, so $19 would be great. No, it's not the Bosch, but nothing that costs less than a hundred comes anywhere near that quality.

I did, however, upgrade to Bosch progressive blades, which made a huge difference.

I think my 3-blade GMC planer does a better job than my 2-bladed Bosch one, though it is heavier and not as ergonomic. I also have the GMC laser 8" compound mitre saw, which I haven't used yet and the GMC dremeloid. The planer is a unique design, so stands on its own, but the other GMC tools I have are better than their low-end prices indicate--at the same or lower than no-brands or HF stuff, much better.

The biggest Australian woodworker forum spends a lot of time and energy debating the philosophy of inexpensive tools (over there B and D costs more than GMC) and their place, if any, in the toolbox.

I'd get GMC over B and D any day. Aside from the fact that each of the GMC things comes with a pretty good case, they seem slightly more powerful than B and D stuff.

I am tempted to pick up the router kit and devote it to the leigh, sounds like I would have to make a new sub-base for the bushings, but might be worth it for the $50.

The only place I have seen it, and where I got mine, was eBay. I looked to see if amazon had some so I could get a backup but they are out and do not seem to carry it anymore.

The way I look at it, it's a whole lot of parts and pieces for router experiments for the $50.

Since the one thing the reviewers really liked was its height adjustment mechanism, I'm thinking of attaching it more or less permanently to a table...which makes buying another router for handheld use a much less expensive proposition because it won't have to have multiple bases.

(Can anyone tell that it's beginning to look like my five routers in Maryland won't be making it to WI any time soon?)

On the circ saw, I just am unsure of the runout/bearing quality and if the base can be adjusted to the blade plane. Seems like a good design.

the dremel tool went down a few more bucks as well, I just ordered both: I usually don't buy cheap tools, but I figure if it doesn't work out I won't be out a lot of money...
