    Woodpeckers low profile DP table

If you got one of the Hitachi Drill Presses from Lowes on sale last year, you know by now that the elevation crank levers extend rather low and hit the fence if its 3 inches high above a normal drilling surface. I used the Grizzly bargain DP table and its fence is too high and the table too small. This has been most inconvenient and I have usually had to pile on several layers of backing material to raise the work (bad if the work piece is large) or simply take the fence and lay it over using clamps to hold it.

WoodPeckers e-mail sale has on sale a nice "low Profile" drill press model 12-tt002 with the coupon code DPT20 that I expect should work nicely with the HItachi drill press. Features Fence only 1/2" high, flip stops, large surface area, tracks etc. I've been admiring it for a year and now its on sale (ends Feb 16).

    From Woodpeckers:

QUICK STOP LOW PROFILE DRILL PRESS TABLE
Virtually any drill press is easier to use when the table is large enough for woodworking projects. Our LP style table features precision 1.000” flip-stops that instantly flip back out of the way and back down for precise, accurate reference. Each stop in machined to exacting tolerances. Drill press includes (2) stops, (2) hold-down clamps, (1) filler board, a Track-Lock Fence and table. Please allow one week for shipping.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

These are a great table. I've had one for a couple years and it's worked great. Very well built.

I removed one of my handles from my craftsman dp for the woodpecker table. I don't even miss it.

I made a table for my DP based on a woodworking magizine design.

I have that Rockler DP table, only because it came in a package deal (i.e. thrown in for free) with the Jet DP that I wanted. It looks to me like the Woodpecker table is worth every extra penny, even if not on sale.

                Regards,
                Tom

Should be, cost more than my Drill Press.

So, you guys that take off most of the handles, what do you do when you want to drill a deep hole? Do you kind of look like a one-armed paper hanger? or perhaps a one-legged man kicking a$$?

Loring - do you actually use TWO hands on the DP arms?

I have never had a problem swinging the single arm all the way around

Yes. Does anyone else clamp their work to the table?

I find it easier to keep a steady pressure when drilling critical or fragile items, by pulling down steadily on the arm. With three arms, you can always be pulling down. With one, you gotta be pushing up half the time.

And, why do you then think there's three arms? Too many in inventory, gotta use them up?

Rod, maybe you should post you table, the one that can drill/clamp on the side of the table @ 90*.
I think that is the best design.

Loring, it looks like a good value. Sure, you could make a simpler table cheaper, but I doubt you could make one any cheaper that incorporates all the features of this one. Add up the cost of all the parts and you sure wouldn’t save much, if any.
