Thanks again Richard. I hear some the Bessey clamps are made in India and the parallel jaw clamps aren't so parallel.

The website above says "We have chisel tools, stanley chisel, punch tools, chisel marples, punch tools, footprint and many other varieties of chisels. "

The implications are rather sobering and may explain why there have been some consistancy issues in various brands.
if you mean the 'stanley chisel', it might not be much more than a knock-off on the stanley (look-alike), and them using the name as a generic. similar to 'xerox copying machine' being the generic for a photo-copier.

at the same time, not knowing Stanley, they might very well be outsourcing their manufacturing, even if all such really goes to chi-wan and India mostly gets the other kind of outsourcings - the software/backend processing stuff.

Who knows for sure. There is the language barrier to consider as well as many other things. I don't think it matters much as long as the quality is there.

For anybody interested, I have some 6 piece sets coming next week too that are not polished but in wood box. Some people like these better because the back are easier to flatten and some like myself prefer the shiny ones. Price for those would be $105.

Also, a 4 piece set in wood box unpolished for $80.

I'll also give 20% off any Norton sharpending stones and supplies if I can ship them at the same time as the chisels. That is valid for anyone that has already contacted me about chisels too that haven't shipped yet.

Please email me at sales@holbren.com because my box here is getting full.

Brian would be the one to ask. I bought the set from Brian and the chisels are great. It doesn't take a lot to get them to razor sharp (yup shave the hair off your arm). The metal is coated in lacquer so it won't rust or corrode. The handles feel good and the overall balance is quite good. In short, they are super.

That sounds great. I am really needing a good set of chisels and I decided to go with Two Cherries. Then I saw this deal he was doing for the forum members. Too great, but I realized it was from January.

I have two sets of chisels. One set is my good Two Cherries and the other is Footprint.

Here is a sale on the footprint wood handled chisels. $27.00

                  http://www.amazon.com/Footprint-1230...9572720&sr=1-1

Here is the same thing in red acetate $43

                  http://www.amazon.com/Footprint-1231...9572720&sr=1-3

                  And the softgrip $17

                  Maybe Brian can do better.

As far as the Two Cherries, I can't do those prices but need to get $10 more per set.

I have two sets of the Footprint 6 piece chisel sets with red acetate handles that I never put for sale. The amazon set for $43 is the 4 piece and I'll sell the 6 piece for $50 to anyone that's interested.

Ha ha. I'll take two of those, and two of those... Richard if I started buying tools like that I would have plenty of tools to build my new cardboard home under an over-pass. Seriously though, great deals make me feel warm and fuzzy.

Holbren, I just sent you a pm. Thanks for getting back to me.

Buying Two Cherries tools is sort of a love-hate thing. You hate spending the money for them but after that you are in love with the tools and won't trade them for anything. They really are one of the nicest tools out there.

Aren't they nice??? When I got mine I honed them to razor sharpness. Yes, I could actually shave with them. It has been a few months and have to touch them up again. Even straight out of the box they have a keen edge on them.
