HD Clearance - Dewalt Plate Joiner $151

Noticed that my local BORG has 3 Dewalt DW682K Plate Joiners on clearance at $151 each. Is this much of a bargain??

I also noted that the smallest biscuit it can accomodate is "0". I expect to be doing projects mostly with a max of 3/4" plywood or boards. Is "0" too big for 3/4" joints???

Unless you need one right now, you should do better. It has been for $99. You can also go with it's equivalent Sears Craftsman which is also often on sale.

Most people prefer the Porter Cable which also has been on sale for around $99.

I like the Dewalt model; I think it has a better fence than the PC.

As for the price, recons have gone for less in the past (but they're spotty and real hard to find - I guess that's a good sign, not too many returned).
Current street pricing seems to be $145-190.

      The cheapest:

but for a few bucks more its easy to walk out with one at a B&M store.

        Al,

You must mean reconditioned, no? If not, where for $99? Amazon hasn't offered it for less than $179 in over a year. Factor in the "$25 off $150" and you could've landed it for about $150-ish. $99 would be a screamin bargain alert.

It was one of those crazy Lowe's deals that was mentioned here.

I think you mean the Porter Cable unit that was on clearance for $99 at a few select Lowes.

Yup. It was selective just like HDT and Amazon will have a hot deal and will be sold out in minutes.

The main point is that $151 does not strike me as a sweet deal for a Dewalt plate-biscuit joiner. Check the going prices on eBay to give you an idea.

Prices of reconditioned tools or ebay items don't have much relevance to whether this is a good deal.

I own (and like) the Dewalt. I bought it (new) February 17th from Amazon. At that point list was $159, but there a -$40 code applied for whatever the BMSMOPT promo was... So, not a bad price but also not something I'd jump on if I didn't need it at the time.

I've had this plate jointer for about 2-years now. I think $151 is a great price. I really like the FF biscuit feature that I don't think the others offer as well as a high amperage motor.

(Only thing is I rarely use this jointer now since I purchased a Kreg jig about a year ago.)

Unless I'm mistaken, I think only the PC 557 biscuit joiner can handle the FF biscuits. This "deal" is about the DeWalt.

                        Thanks for the thoughts!!

I'm not in a hurry here. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a good bargain. Looks like there's no need to run over and get one.
