The Kannapolis HD had the floor model Ridgid planer for around $270. The University City HD in Charlotte had their floor model priced about the same last week, but i don't know if it is still there. I didn't inspect them, so i don't know what condition they were in.

I picked up a Ridgid Planer, and Ridgid drill press for 40% off. The Planer was like new, and the drill press was in excellent condition.

In my case the manuals for the planer were in the dust collector.

For the drill press the manuals, tools, wrenchs, and chuck key were in the top section where the pulleys are.

Not exactly "New in the box", but at 40% off I couldn't help myself.

I just stopped by the HD near my work, and they're getting rid of most floor models now. About all they had out was a Ryobi thiskness planer, a ridgid belt/spindle sander, and an MSUV. Couple other things too, but none caught my attention. Looks like the Ridgid BS and big TS, as well as all portable TS will still be on display. I'll check one or two others, possibly tomorrow, and see what they have, but I'm not expecting too much.

A local HD is in the process of changing their tool area into the new look and green tagged a lot of display tools. Today I picked up on a Ryobi thickness planer, Ryobi belt/disc sander, Ridgid oscillating spindle/belt sander, and a Ridgid 14" bandsaw for $300 less than regular prices.

I wonder if the departing Home Depot CEO got his golden parachute (210 million smackers) in HD gift certificates?

Do they, like Best Buy (and others, I hear) certificates, start depreciating after a year (on the unused portion) and vanish by the end of the second year?

Those 'buy-outs' are written into the executive's contracts before they are hired, those things aren't given when they are fired and can't leagally be re-voked. I think it's crazy but unfortuantely its the only way to attrack so-called good prospects. It's gotten to the point where they are as bad as politicians. My ex-CEO though drastically reduced the layoff package a month before he laid off 4,000+ employees but he walked away with more money then most powerball winners and didn't think twice about giving it back.

I love the self check-outs at HD! Especially when I have a few items but I've purchased a 4x8 sheet of MDF through there, just peeled the sticker off. It seems most shoppers at BORGs are very slow at check-out and the self help really speeds my check-out up.

Green tags are at Lowes, aren't they? (HD's are yellow)

No. From the Home Depot web site:

"The Home Depot has something for everybody. We can send gift cards to you, or mail them directly to your friends and family. Available in any amount between $5 and $5000.

"They never expire and no service fees will ever be charged when purchasing or using a Home Depot gift card."

Say what you will about HD, this is one thing they do right. Stores that charge a "service fee" for leaving YOUR money in THEIR bank account in the form of an unused gift card balance ... that's just unconscionable.

How much were they selling the Ridgid oscillating spindle/belt sander for?

I picked the Ridgid sander up for $149.99, the Ridgid Bandsaw $260.00, the Ryobi thickness planer $149.99, and a Ryobi disc/belt sander for $75.00 plus an additional 10% off the total.

Green tags exist at HD as well because it was definitely green - not the typical yellow sale discount type. And, I'm ashamed I now know this.

I went to 2 different HD's last night and there were no sales on any of their machines. I did see a green tag on the Rigid tablesaw, regular price $550, sale price $550. WOW, huge discount.

I really want one of those sanders.
