    Hitachi 12" Bandsaw

I have found a nearby Lowes with 2 of the 12" Hitachi bandsaws some were able to pickup for $125, the only problem is they won't budge from $250. I showed them some receipts posted here, mentioned non-stock, mentioned the fact they haven't sold one in over a year, mentioned the fact that they didn't even now they had them until I asked someone to look in the computer, etc... but they are not willing to drop the price any.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do to get them to drop the price?

Offer to ARM WRESTLE them for it.

I'd go to Sears and get theirs first. It is on sale now.

try a different manager on a different shift, or go to a higher manager.

Who is the "them". If it is not the customer service, folks read on.

On advice from one of the folks here at BTCentral, I now stop at the customer service desk to begin the process of price matching. Ask the folks behind the desk their procedures and requirements. Show them any receipt and list any store numbers. That is how i got my Hitachi DP, and the department manager nearly fell over when he "discovered" he had nine that he did not know about. Oddly enough it was a very helpful young man at a Lowes 50 miles the other direction that searched the computer and found the store and stock.

You may have to be patient and persistant. Some times ( at Lowes & HD) when I asked and was denied, the items were sold a couple days later. Things that make you go hmmmm. Probably employees doing some research with my info.

What worked for me was asking the manager what he could do for me. That got the price down pretty easily. He also asked how many I wanted (I think that they had 3 or 4 in stock at the time), but no room in the car for more than one, and too expensive to ship. But, I'd try approaching it that way. Don't demand, ask if they can help you.

At $125 I'd be tempted, but at $250...heck with them! I'm no BS expert (bandsaw that is! ), but I've been pretty impressed by what that new Sears 22400 offers.....I swung a great deal at $190, but think I'd have still been pretty happy at full retail of $299....and it goes on sale for less than that often.

At $299, I'd also consider going to $350 for the Ridgid, but I've read both positives and enough negatives about it that I'd hesitate a bit. I'd be wondering if I should just bite the bullet and go Grizzly or the 14" Sears.

I was going to by the Craftsman myself when I first read about it, seemed like it would have been 'good enough' for me for a while, BUT, I went to the local Sears 6 times in a month to see the display , and was told, "we will have that set up tomorrow". After a month of no display to look over, I determined they did not really want to sell it.

BTW, still kept an eye out for it, and FINALLY they have the display model on the floor, 4 months later...

                Craftsman club sale NOV 5-11

While it is more then the $125 the original poster was trying to get the one for. The Craftsman club sale has the #224400 for $239.99 for the members. Just in case you all haven't seen the flyer!

Did they have anything in the flyer for the 22401?
                  Thanks

Here is some information a friend who works at lowes told me.

If under or next to the barcode on a yellow tag item there the letter N, it means that the item is a 'non-stock' item. They can drop the price on stock items to almost nothing. It's the manager's choice at that time.

If it does not have the N then the manager is limited in the amount he can reduce the item.

I was given similat information when I bought my Hitachi BS at a Lowes store, from the manager who dropped the price for me. It seems that sometimes, they just want this merchandise out the door to make room for something else.
